Crown Paints Limited has appointed Nigel Banks to the newly created role of Commercial Manager for Export & Licensing, signalling its firm intention to develop overseas sales for its key decorative coatings brands including Crown, Sandtex, Macpherson and Permoglaze.
Now the UK’s largest independent decorative coatings manufacturer as a result of a buyout from Akzo Nobel, backed by private equity house Endless LLP, Crown Paints is currently restructuring and making major changes to its senior management teams. This appointment follows closely behind the internal promotion of Liz Hickson to Marketing Director and the appointment of Mike Polkinghorn, former Vice President Operations of Ronseal and Sherwin Williams, to the position of Production and Logistics Director.
Banks has worked for Crown Paints for eighteen months and was previously UK Trade Marketing Controller with responsibility for marketing decorative coatings into the specification and contractor markets. Prior to joining the company he worked for a number of different paint manufacturers including ICI Paints where he held several senior sales and marketing management roles during his eleven years with the company.
As Crown’s new Commercial Manager for Export & Licensing, Banks will be seeking out opportunities to forge licensing agreements overseas and identifying and developing new export sales markets. He will be supported in this venture by an Export Sales Team.
Crown Paints Chairman Graham Hallworth commented: “Now that we are no longer the UK subsidiary of a Dutch conglomerate there are fantastic opportunities for us to develop this business in a far more entrepreneurial and outward looking way. This is an exciting role for Nigel, and he and his team have an unrestricted remit to establish profitable business for Crown Paints wherever they can. As an independent manufacturing company, the world is our oyster.”
