There has been much to celebrate this weekend. Saturday was herald to the hottest day of 2010 to date (no mean feat after the outgoing blizzards of late March) and saw Tony McCoy romp home with a comfortable victory on Don’t Push It at Aintree, in a ‘15th time lucky’ Grand National attempt.
Sunday, however, brought much needed relief for Team Endless from the heady cocktail of barbecues and beer gardens which inevitably accompany such historic events and aim to derail even the most committed of 3-Peakers from their meticulously orchestrated pre-peak training regimes. Yes, Sunday saw eight of the team head for the hills in the second training walk of the season, ahead of our National 3 Peaks Challenge in July.
With temperatures testily fluctuating before peaking at 19⁰C, the team hiked, scrambled and trekked their way around 12.8 miles of our most beautiful countryside on the Yorkshire / Lancashire border. Some looked more comfortable than others when straying into red rose country. But whilst the unpredictable terrain afforded a good chance to test both team and kit to its current limits, there were inevitably some casualties along the way – fortunately confined to expired footwear at this stage. Just how long the useful economic life of our 3-Peakers will last still remains to be seen.
But back at the day job, the red faces in the office are solely attributable to a slight miscalculation in the sun / windburn factor, rather than any lack of commitment within the team. Another successful day’s training under the belt and a beer garden reward for all. Looking forward to the next one already…
The team are taking on the 3 Peaks Challenge in July in aid of the Haiti Hospital Appeal and Sport Relief.
